Camping = Productiveness
So this week we went camping and it was amazing. I bonded with so many people, a lot of whom I wouldn’t expect to have bonded with. Michelle Isbandi and I have come to the conclusion that camping = magic. I miss it. Sitting around the fire even though it was really really cold, sharing random stories, and all the fun in between.
I came back to school on Thursday, exhausted but feeling refreshed and energized. I think that this trip was just what I needed to pull through the last few weeks of school (:
So the reason I titled this post Camping = Productiveness was because yesterday I got four interviews done (Mr. Reynolds, Ms. Kramer, Abegail, and Mrs.Fonti), I’m going to be interviewing Mr. Rowe on Monday morning, and I left a note for Dr. LeBeouf to see if she’d be willing to be interviewed. I’m feeling pretty good about all this, just because I’m being so productive trying to get on point. Even though it’s a bit late xD

We are back!!
So after 3 long cold nights… Well two for me since I was in the challenge and lost on the bus >:/ We are back to school and are going to get back to work on our multiculturalism project. We are going to start on our second scrip now and I’m pretty sure this one is going to be better since we have bonded more during camping. We can communicate better and get things done faster then last time. We should of had this trip a long time ago. Well I’m going back to work, so I’m out.

Second Script
So I guess we started on the second script. Our first project didn’t turn out that good but I hoping that this one would come out better. I read the script and it seems like a good idea. It’s about our school getting lowered standards which just dumbs us down. They’re practically saying that were stupid and need to lower the standards for our school, so it could just keep up. It just gives our school bad reputation.

Recreation
So I scrapped most of my old first documentary video and now have a somewhat new idea. It’s going to be about the loss of culture and language one student has and how they feel about it. I’m also going to interview and see if their parents purposely didn’t teach them cultural traditions from their country. The documentary is going to be on Abegail and her experiences. She said her dad’s willing to be interviewed, thankfully! In the documentary there’s gonna be a segment on Abegail doing Tinikling and why she does it and a couple other things! I’m excited!
OH! And I came up with my second documentary idea for the giant group! (: It’s going to be on lowered standards in our district and how students, teachers, administrators, and parents feel about it. It’s going to try and get across the idea, just because the district has lowered its standards of the students, should students lower their standards as well?
I’m trying to put myself in gear. I’m slacking and not liking it Dx

Rolling with the Punches
Okay, so I’m picking up and moving on. We’re doing our documentary on Raymond. He’s gonna take a flip camera home today and film. Then tomorrow we’re gonna interview him and get some more b-roll.
Also today I’m gonna take 12 pictures and edit them today and tomorrow.
I’m trying to move forward and get through this rut that I’m in.

SFSU & YV Multicultural Rally
So this week was busy. On Thursday we went to SFSU. That was a lot of fun. We got to tour BECA, which is the Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts Department. It was really awesome because they had just got a bunch of new equipment that was HD, and the studios were really big. I felt like the student got a lot of hands on experience, which was really appealing because I want to have that kind of experience when I go to college. I also really liked the campus and the students seemed pretty chill. Plus the food was delicious!
On Friday the Tahitian dancers went to YV to perform at their multicultural rally. It was relatively fun. I wish we had, had our full costumes when we were performing. Even though we weren’t in full costume, I think overall, we had a good performance. ^__^
Regarding our project… It’s progressing… slowly.

Project Jam
Lately our progress on our project is being barricaded by other events for our internship, but hopefully we are able to finish our project even with delays in our project. Our new script is lacking work as well as our first movie so I don’t know how our project is going to end.

RIP Crispus Gathuru
on 3.30.10 one of our members from DSA Crispus Gathuru took his life and we were given the new the day after. When we heard the news it seemed like everyone was in shock and could not believe it. i never really knew him, he was always so quite he rarely talked. he would always be smiling, and that is what most people remember about his is his smile. i wonder if we could of prevented this by trying to be more close to him. what could of made hhis take his life??? A Loss Like No Other
A lot can happen in a week. It’s been a rollercoaster ride this past week, that’s for sure. On Wednesday (3/30/10), the DSA found out about the death of one of it’s own, and it saddens me to think about it. Crispus Gathuru, you’re sorely missed. Last Friday (4/09/10), he was laid to rest and I had the opportunity to be at his funeral services. It’s amazing how strong people can be with the right support system.
One thing the pastor said during his sermon was, “Live life to the fullest by living empty. Not by going all out, but by giving it your all. Put all your strength, all your knowledge, all your wisdom into what you do. That way, God can fill us up; For God cannot fill anything that is already full.” I thought that was really powerful. It’s something that I can strive for daily and I think it’s also something that I will remind me of Crispus.
Last of all, I can only hope that Crispus is in a better place now.
For now I’ll end this.
Rest on Mars Crispus Gathuru,
You’ll be missed, but never forgotten.
